Vanadium

Vanadium occurs in solution in a number of oxidation states, but can only be separated from other metals by solvent extraction when present as Vanadium (+5).

Vanadium can be oxidised to the +5 state using Caro’s acid in acid solutions or hydrogen peroxide under alkaline conditions.

The properties of hydrogen peroxide as a complexing agent can also be utilised in recovering Vanadium from secondary sources.
